Kleen Diesel targets 5% of market share by 2020

MN Fuel Solutions Sdn Bhd (MN Fuel) hopes that its newly-launched ‘Kleen Diesel’ will nab 5% of the local market share of the domestic transport sector diesel demand by 2020.

Its managing director, Marizan Nor said since commercialised in May last year, the company planned to expand the blending facilities of its eco-friendly ‘Kleen Diesel W10’ which it exclusively developed for the transport sector, to meet the growing demand in the industry.

He estimated that the local transportation industry easily consumed 12 billion litres in a year, and MN Fuel which to date has worked alongside various fleet owners and city councils in Klang Valley, targeted only five % of the market share within three years.

“Industry players are always on the lookout for ways to reduce operational costs and embrace green energy initiative. Kleen Diesel W10 is relatively cheaper by five sen per litre than the pump price.

“Ideally, we need one blending facility in every state. Each MN Fuel’s blending facility will cost around RM2 million and we are looking for local investors for our expansion,” he told Bernama after the launching of another MN Fuel’s latest product, ‘Kleen Diesel W20’, which is exclusively produced for fogging activities.

The ‘Kleen Diesel W20’ was launched by Malaysian Technology Development Corporation (MTDC) chief executive officer, Datuk Norhalim Yunus, here, today.

The Kleen Diesel is an eco-friendly diesel produced through high-shear homogenisation process of Diesel Euro 2M standard, reverse osmosis water and surfactant.

The product has been certified to comply with the European standard for emulsified diesel and is capable of reducing emission from fuel combustion by up to 88 %.

“We are the first in the ASEAN region with this technology. In Asia, Japan and Korea are developing it,” said Marizan, adding that the company had just received query from PT Pertamina, the Indonesian state-owned oil and natural gas corporation, to buy the technology.

Apart from being cheaper than normal diesel in terms of market price and proven to reduce emission, Marizan highlighted that the Kleen Diesel technology was also tested and proven to give more mileage with no modification required to vehicles.

MN Fuel currently has only one blending and storage facility at Sunway Damansara, invented together with the Ministry of Science Technology and Innovation (MOSTI) at a cost of RM6 million, with the capacity of producing 25,000 litres of Kleen Diesel a day.

Marizan said the company had also received a grant from MTDC that was used to acquire homogenisation technology from Germany, which later was used to develop a local water-diesel emulsion.

“We spent nearly eight years to study and design an emulsified diesel that is suitable for the Malaysian market. The potential is big and we are now in the midst of commercialising it,” he said.

On ‘Kleen Diesel W20’, he said the product was tested and proven to give further spraying distance for fogging.

On its commercialisation potential, Marizan cited the Subang Jaya Municipal Council which alone consumed 3,000 litres of diesel per month for fogging activities.

“Malaysia is unique and fogging is still needed for mosquitoes. There are many local authorities and city councils in this country and they all have to do fogging operations,” he added.
