Linde’s new US$1.4 bn gas facility in Singapore to support ExxonMobil

Linde’s new US$1.4 bn gas facility in Singapore to support ExxonMobilIndustrial gas company Linde recently held a groundbreaking ceremony for its new world-class integrated manufacturing complex to be located and integrated with its existing gasification facility on Jurong Island in Singapore. Linde’s new complex will quadruple its current production capacity in Singapore to produce and supply hydrogen and synthesis gas to support the multi-billion-dollar expansion of ExxonMobil Asia Pacific Pte Ltd’s integrated manufacturing complex.

To ensure the success of this world-scale complex, Linde is deploying an execution strategy that leverages the strength and capabilities of its global engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) management expertise across the world. The process concept and design, as well as the full EPC has been developed by Linde Engineering and the overall construction of the plant is being executed out of its hubs in China, India and Germany. Linde Engineering will also partner regional and local process construction companies for the construction of the new complex.

Linde’s construction execution strategy will further utilise advanced modularisation to optimise construction productivity and to reduce the labour intensity on site, which will help improve overall site safety. The largest super-module made for the new complex is approximately 3,500 tonnes, which will be fabricated in India and shipped to Jurong Island.

Over the next four years, Linde Gas Singapore will also be undertaking the execution of a number of projects, including a series of modifications and interconnections to integrate the new complex and its existing facility.  This will ensure continuity of gas supplies to its existing customers on Jurong Island during the construction period.

“Today’s event represents an important step in our strategic partnership with ExxonMobil, and signals our continued commitment to Singapore.  This expansion of our existing facilities on Jurong Island, at an investment of US$1.4 billion, is the single largest for our company globally and I am delighted that it will also add a number of high value manufacturing jobs in Singapore,” said Sanjiv Lamba, Executive Vice President/CEO Linde Asia-Pacific. “Our integrated complex will be equipped with Linde’s world-class technologies which underpin our commitment to provide safe, reliable and sustainable solutions for our customers.”

“Linde’s partnership with ExxonMobil is illustrative of the collaborative, integrated ecosystem on Jurong Island, which enables companies in the Energy & Chemicals sector to establish competitive and reliable supply chains. We hope to continue working with Linde, and other like-minded companies, to develop more advanced manufacturing facilities that create good jobs for Singaporeans,” said Chng Kai Fong, Managing Director, Singapore Economic Development Board.

Gan Seow Kee, Chairman & Managing Director, ExxonMobil Asia Pacific, said: “Today’s groundbreaking ceremony marks yet another important milestone in our long-term partnership with Linde. The new facility that Linde is building shows how a major ExxonMobil investment can further strengthen the Jurong Island ecosystem by attracting other new investments, and create high-value jobs in Singapore.”
