Techies, tycoons tie-up on clean energy

The world’s prominent technology luminaries, Bill Gates (Microsoft), Mark Zuckerberg (Facebook) and other corporate magnates, including Jeff Bezos (Amazon), Richard Branson (Virgin Group), Reid Hoffman (LinkedIn), Jack Ma (Alibaba), Masayoshi Son (SoftBank), and businessman and philanthropist George Soros, are forming a billion-dollar partnership for clean energy research and technologies.

The Breakthrough Energy Coalition had been unveiled prior the opening of the UN-organised climate talks outside Paris involving more than 150 international state and government leaders.

The coalition has pledged to invest into companies to boost innovations for clean energy, especially in the developing world and achieve a zero-carbon future, the coalition proponents said. Moreover, the Breakthrough Energy Coalition sees working with governments to bring technologies to the markets.
