Fluidic Energy provides energy storage to Indonesian villages

Fluidic Energy partnered with Caterpillar Inc. and PT Perusahaan Listrik Negara (PLN), Indonesia’s state-owned Electricity Company to supply energy storage systems in remote villages in Indonesia.

This collaboration will provide reliable and renewable electricity to 500 remote villages throughout Indonesia. Indonesian president Joko Widodo, was in attendance for the signing of the agreement in Washington D.C.

The project will provide electricity to 325,000 households and more than 1.7 million residents. The “500 Island Project” is one of the largest rural electrification projects in the world, and accelerates the Indonesian Government’s promise of bringing reliable energy to all populated areas of the country.

“This project enhances Fluidic’s positioning as a global energy storage leader,” said Steve Scharnhorst, CEO of Fluidic Energy. “This type of rural electrification project is unprecedented in our industry. We’re excited to take part in this endeavor with our partners and provide our innovative renewable energy solutions to the citizens in Indonesia.”

As part of the “500 Island” team, Fluidic will supply the energy storage systems including its integrated smart grid intelligence. Fluidic will also lead the training of the local Indonesian installation and service partners, and will consult on the overall project execution.

With Fluidic manufacturing operation facilities already set up in Indonesia, the project has high local content and will create a large number of new manufacturing and local jobs. “With our already high local content, this project is set to be a real game changer on multiple fronts including bringing additional new jobs to Indonesia’s economy,” said Scharnhorst.

“Since 2011, Fluidic Energy’s intelligent storage systems have already been deployed in Indonesia to support other energy infrastructure projects. In every situation we have exceeded all performance expectations in challenging environments. This project will greatly benefit these remote villages providing them with safe, sustainable, and reliable energy improving the standard of living and the local economies.”
