Technip Energies secures major HPCL refinery modernisation contract
Technip Energies, a French engineering and technology company for the energy and chemicals industries has been awarded a large Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) contract by Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL) for its Lube Modernization and Bottom Upgradation (LMBU) project at the Mumbai Refinery in Maharashtra, India.
A “large” award for Technip Energies represents between EUR250 million and EUR500 million in revenue. The order intake will be recorded in the Project Delivery segment’s backlog in Q3 2026.
The contract covers the delivery of a 550 KTA Integrated Hydrocracker and Catalytic Dewaxing (IHCD) unit and an 850 KTA Solvent Deasphalting (SDA) unit. These units form a major part of HPCL’s LMBU project and will be integrated into the operating Mumbai Refinery.
The project will modernise HPCL’s production of lube oil base stocks, key components used in automotive engine oils and industrial lubricants. It will also upgrade heavier refinery streams into higher-value products, improving resource utilisation and supporting the refinery’s long-term competitiveness.
At the same time, the project is expected to strengthen India’s refining capabilities and maximize the value of existing assets amid growing demand for fuels and specialty petroleum products.
Loïc Chapuis, President of Project Delivery and Services at Technip Energies, said the company would apply its refinery modernisation and project execution expertise to deliver the new units and integrate them into HPCL’s existing facilities.
