VietNam promotes industrial energy efficiency

Vietnam’s Ministry of Industry and Trade presented a project to promote energy efficiency in the country’s industries.

The project, “Promotion of energy efficient industrial boiler adoption and operating practices in Viet Nam”, will be implemented from 2016 to 2019.

The United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) will help finalize the regulations and guidelines on industrial boiler standardization systems as well as to build the national technical and financial capacity to promote the production, manufacturing and widespread adoption of energy efficient boilers in industrial enterprises.

“This project comes at the right time for Viet Nam since the current boilers are not consistent in quality, not competitive compared to imported ones, and not energy efficient,” said Patrick J. Gilabert, UNIDO Country Office Representative in Viet Nam.

Do Duc Quan, Deputy Director General of the General Directorate of Energy, Ministry of Industry and Trade noted that the project will assist in “raising energy efficiency and in conservation activities which are fundamental for reducing the pressure of energy supply and energy exploitation investment for Viet Nam, and in ensuring national energy security”.

The project is in line with such governemnt policies and programmes on energy efficiency and energy conservation as the Viet Nam National Energy Efficiency Programme and the Law on Energy Efficiency and Conservation.
