Ferguson supplies offshore chemical tanks in the Middle East

Ferguson, a global specialist in the provision of offshore DNV 2.7-1/EN12079 containers, freezers, workspace and accommodation solutions, expanded its Abu Dhabi and Dubai product range to include a large fleet of chemical tanks.

The tanks are used for a variety of oilfield operations, from well stimulation to cementing and decommissioning.

Chemicals are essential for use in the energy industry in everything from exploration to decommissioning. Ferguson had been asked by the customers if they could provide an effective way to store and transport oilfield chemicals, including acids and liquefied nitrogen.

Ferguson’s UAE tank fleet already consisted of 2900 litre and 4000 litre helifuel and chemical tanks and the company has invested in a fleet of larger chemical tanks after consultation with their clients.

“Our new chemical tanks are a 10 foot tank with an 8000 litre capacity and a 20 foot tank with a 20 000 litre capacity. These have been designed to store a larger volume of chemical over a smaller footprint, which is necessary with the lack of space on a typical platform. It is more cost effective too, with larger capacity tanks meaning fewer uplifts being required.” Judith Verner, Development Manager, Fluid Solutions said.

Chemicals used offshore must be stored and transported under strict controls, set down in the IMDG code, an international set of regulations for maritime transportation. The IMDG code is intended to protect crew members and their environment.

“Our tanks are constructed using different materials to meet with the storage and transportation requirements of a wide variety of oilfield chemicals. Some chemicals can have a corrosive effect if incompatible with the tank material, causing pitting and damage to the tank shell. It is therefore important to ensure product compatibility at all times. Using the wrong tank could potentially pose a risk to both people and the environment.” Verner continued.

Ferguson has a dedicated team of fluid solutions specialists who are on hand to advise on how best to handle potentially hazardous chemicals and acids.

“Our Fluid Solutions Team is able to advise on the correct tank type for your operation. Ferguson offers a level of expertise in chemical handling that can save customers time and money.” Verner concluded.
