Shell Catalysts & Technologies divests ECS assets to Lummus Technology
Shell Catalysts & Technologies, a provider of catalysts, technical services, and licensed process technologies, has sold a number of intellectual property assets and experienced personnel associated with its Environmental Catalysts and Systems (ECS) business to Lummus Technology (Lummus).
For Shell Catalysts & Technologies, the divestment positions the ECS business for continued growth within a complementary environmental solutions technology platform. ECS provides advanced emissions-control systems for environmental applications across a broad range of industrial markets.
Shell Catalysts & Technologies originally developed the ECS business to reduce harmful emissions from industrial operations and expanded it into the external market over the past 30 years. Its offerings include DeNOx systems designed to reduce nitrogen oxide (NOx) emissions and enable customers to comply with increasingly stringent environmental standards while maintaining operational performance. Across its portfolio, ECS technologies can achieve emissions reductions of more than 98–99% for key pollutants in certain applications.
With more than 30 years of experience, Shell Catalysts & Technologies built ECS into an established environmental solutions business with technologies deployed at scale for more than 300 customers worldwide, including Shell assets. The divestment will enable ECS to expand its customer base while continuing its focus on improving air quality.
Under the agreement, Shell Catalysts & Technologies will continue supporting ECS customers during a transition period to ensure continuity of supply and service.
According to Elise H. Nowee, President of Shell Catalysts & Technologies, the divestment reflects the company’s commitment to positioning ECS for continued growth. She said Shell had successfully built and supported the business over many years, while its long-standing relationship with Lummus in specialized catalysts gives the company confidence that Lummus is well positioned to expand the offering and continue serving customers as the market evolves.
Leon de Bruyn, President and Chief Executive Officer of Lummus Technology, said the acquisition strengthens the company’s emissions-control and environmental solutions while expanding its cross-industry relationships. He added that the existing ECS customer base will enhance Lummus’ ability to serve customers throughout the asset lifecycle. De Bruyn also cited the companies’ long-standing relationship as a foundation for the transaction and said Lummus looks forward to welcoming the ECS team and building on its success across the energy and industrial sectors.
