Consortium kick-starts wind farm construction in Taiwan
A consortium between Semco Maritime (Denmark) and PTSC Mechanical & Construction (PTSC M&C, Vietnam) says it has held the first-cut ceremony for the Formosa 4 Offshore Substation (OSS) project at PTSC M&C’s fabrication yard in Vung Tau, Vietnam. The ceremony is said to mark a significant milestone, initiating the fabrication phase of the offshore substation.
The Formosa 4 offshore wind farm, developed by Synera Renewable Energy (SRE), is a 495 MW project located off the coast of Taiwan and represents SRE’s third offshore wind development in the country. The project plays an important role in supporting Taiwan’s renewable energy targets and localization policy.
The ceremony signifies the transition of the Formosa 4 OSS project from engineering and procurement into full-scale construction. Under the EPC contract awarded in late August 2025, the Semco Maritime – PTSC M&C consortium is responsible for the design, procurement, construction, and commissioning of the offshore substation’s jacket and topside, with scheduled delivery by the end of 2027.
Semco Maritime is leading the engineering, procurement, and commissioning of the main MV/HV electrical systems and auxiliary platform systems, supported by its long-term partner ISC Consulting Engineers. PTSC M&C is responsible for the jacket EPC scope, procurement of remaining topside equipment and materials, as well as fabrication of the topside at its Ho Chi Minh yard.
Following the successful delivery of the Hai Long Offshore Substation and the ongoing Feng Miao Offshore Substation project, Formosa 4 becomes the consortium’s third offshore substation project in Taiwan.
This milestone is said to further strengthen the position of the Semco Maritime – PTSC M&C consortium as a trusted EPC contractor in the offshore wind supply chain across the region.
