Air Liquide unveils world’s largest PEM electrolyzer for carbon-free hydrogen

Air-Liquide

French multinational company, Air Liquide plans to construct the world’s largest Proton-Exchange Membrane (PEM) electrolyzer in Canada.

The PEM electrolyzer is expected to have a 20MW capacity for carbon-free hydrogen production. This investment will provide the increasing demand of carbon-free hydrogen in US and Canada.  With the new production unit, almost 27,000 tonnes of CO2 emission per year will be prevented.

“This investment will help further contribute towards carbon-free hydrogen supply for Air Liquide industrial and mobility markets in North America and complement the recently announced hydrogen investment for the energy markets in the western US. Both are reflective of the group’s Climate Objectives: to reduce the carbon intensity of its activities and work with customers towards a sustainable industry and the development of a low-carbon society,” said Michael J. Graff, Executive Vice President of Air Liquide.

Air Liquide has been producing hydrogen for alternative energy source. Fuel cell which uses hydrogen produces zero greenhouse gases making it an environmental-friendly option to consumers.
