Tecnicas Reunidas initiates work for US$8 bn green hydrogen/ammonia project in Australia

Spanish engineering firm Técnicas Reunidas S. A. and Australia’s Allied Green Ammonia Pty. Ltd. have agreed to commence the first phases of a green hydrogen and green ammonia production facilities at Northern Territory, Australia.

The Basic Engineering Design (BED) and Front-End Engineering Design (FEED) works are to commence shortly for the proposed production facility which will produce 165,000 tonnes/year of green hydrogen, which will be used to produce 912,500 tonnes/year of green ammonia.

The facility will contribute substantially to the ecological transition and provide important environmental advantages. Apart from being used for fertiliser, ammonia is an essential emission free green fuel when produced sustainably.

Once the negotiations currently in progress with the various entities, industrial companies and investment funds have concluded and financial closure reached, Técnicas Reunidas will commence the next phases of detailed engineering, procurement and construction management.

In that case, commercial operation of the plant is planned for 2028 and would have an estimated total investment cost of US$$8.5 billion.

This project marks a significant milestone for Técnicas Reunidas, as it further consolidates its commitment to establishing itself as a global leader in the energy transition markets and further commitment to reducing CO2 emissions worldwide and contribute to a sustainable environment. Which is much in line with its launch of Track, it’s new strategic solution in this area which took place in March of this year.

Allied Green Ammonia owner of the project, is a leading private Australian company registered with ASIC to design, develop, own, and operate a co-production facility in the Northern Territory Australia.
