Lanxess/BPCL explore cooperation in lubricants/fluid technologies
Specialty chemicals company Lanxess and Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL), one of India’s leading integrated energy companies, have entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to explore opportunities for long-term cooperation in advanced industrial lubricant technologies, specialty fluid solutions and related applications in India.
The MoU establishes a non-exclusive framework for evaluating technical and commercial opportunities aimed at developing innovative lubricant solutions, supporting OEM approvals, enhancing localization and creating long-term value for customers across industrial sectors in India.
Under the proposed framework, Lanxess and BPCL will explore collaboration in the development, evaluation, qualification and commercialisation of advanced industrial lubricants, additive technologies and associated specialty products. Areas of interest include high-performance bearing and circulating oils, premium hydraulic fluids, turbine oils, refrigeration lubricants, rust preventive oils, specialty greases, immersion cooling fluids for data centres, environmentally acceptable lubricants, industrial additive packages and lubricant solutions for emerging technologies.
The cooperation will combine Lanxess’s global lubricant additive expertise, formulation capabilities and OEM relationships with BPCL’s domestic market presence, base oil portfolio, manufacturing infrastructure and customer reach. The companies also intend to explore opportunities related to product localisation, joint technical evaluations, field trials, OEM engagement, knowledge exchange and future commercialisation initiatives, subject to applicable approvals and definitive agreements.
In addition, the parties will assess opportunities in next-generation and sustainable technologies, including bio-based lubricants, electric vehicle fluids, hydrogen economy applications, specialty refrigeration fluids, personal care ingredients, and immersion cooling solutions for rapidly growing digital infrastructure requirements.
